Moya Foundation
The Moya Foundation creates safe, welcoming places where children in Kayamandi and Klapmuts, South Africa, can learn, create, and grow.
Founded in 2020 by Peterson Sibeko and Isa Klaassen, Moya began by delivering soup, blankets and other essentials to families hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic with basic necessities. Six years on, it has grown into a foundation built around a small, yet deeply committed team who run aftercare, education support, food security projects, nature-based learning and creative programmes for children in both communities.

The challenge in Kayamandi
Kayamandi is a vibrant, resilient community of about 50,000 people. Yet many families there struggle with poverty, an unemployment rate estimated at 30 to 40 percent, and food insecurity: two-thirds of households experience moderate to severe food insecurity. For many of the children Moya works with, there are very few places where they can simply be children: safe, welcome, and cared for.
Reconnecting children with nature
Despite growing up surrounded by the mountains and farmland of the Stellenbosch region, a legacy of apartheid-era spatial planning still limits many of these children’s access to nature. Nature walks, outdoor learning and creative activities are now core to Moya’s work, helping children grow more curious, confident and engaged.
A home in Klapmuts
In 2024, Moya opened a small nature-based learning and aftercare centre in Klapmuts, now supporting around 30 children after school with homework help, meals, and time with trusted adults. This has shown, once again, that children flourish when they have a safe space, supportive relationships, and room to discover what they’re capable of.
Moya has never had the resources to build a permanent space in Kayamandi itself, until now. With Campo Charity Foundation’s support, Moya wants to build the Moya Hub: a safe, welcoming place where children can do homework, dance, make art, read, garden, eat a proper meal, and simply belong.
The Moya Hub isn’t just a building. It’s what becomes possible when children have space, stability and people who show up for them, consistently.
